How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade is converted to grade points on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, and so on down to F = 0. Each class's points are multiplied by its credits, added together, then divided by the total credits. A 4-credit class therefore counts twice as much as a 2-credit class.
Cumulative GPA works the same way across all semesters. Enter your current cumulative GPA and credits completed, and the calculator combines them with this semester's classes.
About grading scales
This calculator uses the standard unweighted US 4.0 scale. Some schools give A+ a 4.3, or add points for honors and AP classes. Check your school's handbook if your scale differs.
